What is aluminium surface treatment?
Surface treatment of aluminium profiles includes technological processes intended to modify aluminium surfaces in order to improve their aesthetic, mechanical, chemical or durability properties. There are many treatment methods, and selecting the proper one depends on the specific application requirements. Metal surface treatment is widely used in many industries, especially in automotive applications.
Anodizing
Anodizing is an aluminium surface-treatment process in which a protective oxide layer is created on aluminium profiles. It increases corrosion resistance and surface hardness, and also enables decorative coloring. In Extral processes, anodizing is used to provide long-term durability and high visual quality of aluminium profiles.
Powder coating
Powder coating is a method where dry paint powder is applied to the surface of aluminium profiles and then cured by heat, creating a durable and uniform coating. This process improves corrosion resistance, mechanical resistance and visual consistency, while meeting individual customer requirements.
Liquid painting
Liquid painting is a traditional method in which liquid paint is applied by spray, roller or brush and then cured. It allows precise color and finish selection and is used when specific aesthetic or functional surface requirements must be met.
Decor
Decor is a specialized treatment that creates finishes imitating wood, marble or other textures on aluminium profiles. The process is carried out after base coating and provides a distinctive architectural appearance tailored to customer expectations.
KTL (Cataphoretic coating)
KTL (cataphoretic coating) is an immersion-coating process using electric current to deposit paint evenly, also in hard-to-reach areas. It delivers high corrosion protection and consistent surface coverage required for demanding industrial applications.
Brushing
Brushing is a mechanical treatment where the aluminium surface is abraded to obtain a uniform matte texture. It removes visual imperfections and prepares the surface for further finishing operations such as anodizing or coating.
Chemical electropolishing
Chemical electropolishing smooths and brightens aluminium surfaces using an electrolytic process. It helps remove micro-defects from prior mechanical processing, improves corrosion resistance and provides a clean, high-quality finish.
Mechanical polishing
Mechanical polishing uses polishing tools to smooth aluminium surfaces and achieve a high gloss effect. It is applied where premium aesthetics and a high-grade finish are required.
Shot blasting
Shot blasting is a mechanical treatment in which abrasive media impacts aluminium surfaces. It removes contaminants and process residues, creates a controlled roughness and prepares the profile for further operations such as anodizing or coating.
